There is an animal control ordinance "leash law" in Hudson. The ordinance basic rule is that animals must be under the owners' control or on the owner property. The ordinance also provides that it is unlawful to keep animals that disturb the "peace and comfort" of the neighborhood. A complete copy of the Animal ordinance is available.
Enforcement of the Animal Control section is a complaint driven activity for the Hudson Police Department. When an individual complains, the Department will attempt to contact the owner and inform them of the ordinance and request compliance. This is considered a Verbal Warning. On the next offense the Department will issue a Written Warning to the owner. On the third offense the Department will issue a citation for allowing the animal to run at large.
Animal Problems - If the owner cannot be located the Department will place a trap to attempt to capture the animal. Captured animals are turned over to Caldwell County Animal Control. In order to place the trap, the Department must have permission from the property owner.
There is a noise ordinance in Hudson. The ordinance basic rule is any noise that disturbs the "peace and repose" of other person in the vicintiy is unlawful unless a permit is issued. A copy of the Noise ordinance is available upon request.
Enforcement of the Noise ordinance section is also complaint driven. When officers receive a call of loud noise/music, the officer attempts to determine the location the noise is coming from. Provided the officer deems the noise to be excessive and disturbing they will request the person to reduce or stop the noise. If the person refuses to comply a citation may issued.
If you are going out of town, having a special event, or problem, and need the Police Department to check your home or property simply call the department at 728-5021.
Due to the background requirements, the Hudson Police Department only sponsors those individuals who have a previous affiliation with the Town or the Department such as former service, Police Explorers, etc. Contact the department to see if your are eligible for sponsorship.
Minimum requirement: 20 years old, High School/GED, Pass Reading Comprehension Testing, Complete Basic Law Enforcement Training taught at a Community College.
Incident, Accident and Arrest reports are all public information. To get a copy a police report simply stop by the Hudson Police Department between 8:30 - 5:00 M-F or call us at 728-5021 and request a copy of the report. You will need the name of the involved person and date of the report. If you have access to a fax machine we will gladly fax a copy or you may pick up a copy at the department. There is no charge for reports.
Simply come by the Hudson Police Department during business hours and we will provide you locks to prevent improper access to you firearms.
Section 11.11 Firearms regulated.
It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any firearm of any type within the corporate limits except a peace officer in the performance of his duty.
Section 11.11-1 Carrying concealed handguns prohibited on Town property.
(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) below, all persons are prohibited from carrying concealed handguns as defined in G.S. 14.269 in Town owned buildings, their appurtenant premises and parks.
(b) This prohibition shall not apply to the following persons:
(1) Officers and enlisted personnel of the forces of the United States when in discharge of their official duties as such and acting under orders requiring them to carry arms and weapons;
(2) Civil officers of the United States while in the discharge of their official duties;
(3) Officers and soldiers of the militia and the National Guard when called into actual service;
(4) Sworn law enforcement officers;
(5) Animal Control officers;
(c) A conspicuous notice shall be posted at each entrance to any property forth in (a) above stating; Possession of weapons or carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited.
(d) Any person in violation of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined $500 or imprisoned for six months or both.
(e) Weapons possessed in violation of this ordinance are hereby declared to be contraband. The Chief of Police or his designee shall hold such weapon for disposal pursuant to court order. In the absence of any Court order, the weapon shall be destroyed.
